5 Days in Ubud
If you would like to have a better understanding of an Indonesian culture, it will always be useful to begin from the cultural side of Ubud. For your first day, you could visit these cultural places that will help you to understand and indulge yourself in their culture.
- Saraswati temple (behind cafe lotus)
- Monkey forest; entrance fee 30 000rp
- Tegallalang rice terraces ( on the way to stop by luwak coffee)
- Goa gajah
- Pura gunung kawi / tampaksiring ( fee 15 000rp, hours 7am-5pm)
- Ubud Palace -> there are some events during events, like Balinese music or dance.
For a second day, you could leave to discover the Ubud market, to buy some local crafts or jewellery. And then head to a Green village. This is an impressive village which worth a visit once in a life. It allows you to see how the whole house is built from bamboos. As well, Green Village has 2 different tours, so one in the morning where you would be able to see a Green Village + Bamboo Factory and Green school with local Balinese lunch included. And a second tour, which is mostly in the afternoons a Green Village and a Bamboo Factory. After a long day of a tour, your body will demand to relax. So why not to try a yoga class in a world’s most famous Yoga barn. For beginners, I would suggest an intro to yoga or a vinyasa flow level 1. However, there are plenty of classes to choose from and to all of them, beginners are welcome.
If you are a fan of beautiful jewellery and would like to see how they are made. John hardy workshop will give you a small tour of their made in Bali jewellery. Where as well at the end of the tour you are able to buy some beauty for yourself as a memory. In addition, they provide a traditional lunch with workers together for free, where you would be able to ask more information about how they make jewellery. And as well it is a great opportunity to get in touch with a Balinese culture and food. However, if you would like to have something more unique a restaurant fivelements is always there to impress you.
If you still have some time you could visit The secret and sacred canyon of sukawati, however, it is a bit hard to find and demands a hard climbing. And then if you wish to see a waterfall, so the nearest one is next to Ubud, Tegenungan waterfall, but recommended to visit it in the morning as there are few people and you are able to take beautiful pictures.
As well, depending on what you would like to do and your interest you could visit:
- Elephant park
- Bamboo Chocolate Farms (Monday – Friday – 2 pm and 3 pm)
If you a climbing person, I would definitely recommend you to take a tour to a Mount Batur. Normally the tour starts from 1 am till around 10-11am. The reason is why you need to leave so early, because the way to get till Mount Batur takes some time, as well the climbing is about 3 hours. As you arrive till the point of the mount you will be able to meet the beautiful and unforgettable sunrise. As well, take warm clothes as it is cold up there.
As you arrive back early to your hotel and you are feeling tired and sleepy. It would be a great idea to enjoy and chill your day at Jungle Fish in the middle of a jungle with amazing pool to cool yourself. The entrance fee is 150 000rp, it includes towel, food and drinks. Food is not very good, but drinks and snacks could keep you full. However, the sun in Jungle Fish is until 3-4pm, where after stays a bit chilly.
Since you have already discovered many places in Ubud, why not to go to a hotel of Lakeside Cottages Kintamani or Toya devasya. These places offer beautiful views to the lake and background of a mountain, it could be a very enjoyable and memorable place to go before leaving Bali.
